GERBER Graduates Strawberry Yoghurt Melts

Bought these without knowing they were for babies (crawler stage) but I was attracted because it was similar to Meringue drops.
The taste was amazing and tasted like freezed dried strawberry yoghurt with a lovely tart taste that was not too sweet.
Definitely a treat for babies without the sugary issue.
I also tried the Very Berry blend which was for toddliers.

Doritos chili heatwave

After trying so many Asian crisps, you will appreciate how delicious British crisps are, but I have always loved them British crisps anyway.

Tried the Doritos chili heatwave which was surprisingly good, it was not too spicy with a hint of lemon that was amazing.

For Asian spicy flavours they will have a nasty sweet tone to it.

NIK NAKS Nice 'n' Spicy Flavour

I love NIK NAKS but my favourite flavours Scampi 'n' Lemon and Hard Cheese have been discontinued because the makers wanted to make Nik Naks a less smelly brand.
The Nice 'n' Spicy Flavour was not spicy but it was very acidic.

Nice 'n' Spicy Flavour ingredients:
Maize, Sunflower Oil (37%), Nice N' Spicy Flavour [Sugar, Yeast Extract, Natural Flavourings (contains Barley Malt Vinegar, Barley Malt Extract, Soya Sauce, Wheat Flour), Salt, Dried Onion, Citric Acid, Curry Powder (Spices, Rice Flour), Malic Acid, Spice, Flavourings (contains Soya Sauce, Wheat Flour, Colour: Paprika Extract, Spice Extracts, Garlic Extracts)]. Numi Organic teas

"Numi Organic Tea is a privately owned triple bottom line social enterprise based in Oakland, California. Numi is known for its assortment of organic and fair trade certified teas and herbal "teasans".
The company was founded in 1999 by brother and sister, Ahmed and Reem Rahim. The founders named the company "Numi" after the citrusy, Middle Eastern dried lime tea they drank as children growing up in Iraq. The name Numi is derived from the Arabic word forcitrus." saids Wikipedia.

I was so lucky to get a sample of their savoury teas, organic teas and Dry desert Lime from Green Pharmacies in Hong Kong.

The organic range I tried were:

Chamomile lemon
 Emperor's Pu Erh
Decaf Ginger Lemon
Rooibos (earthy vanilla)
White Rose
Jasmine green

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Jasmine green
(Fair trade certified organic green tea scented with organic jasmine flowers)
The Jasmine tea was nice and pleasant.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rooibos (earthy vanilla)
(organic roobos)
The smell of this was similar to chipped wood but the taste was not as strong as I expected.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Emperor's Pu Erh
(organic black Pu erh tea)
The pu erh came out strong with a dark brown colour, it's tastes was earthy and strong.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chamomile lemon
(Fair trade certified organic Chamomile, organic lemon myrtle)
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
White Rose
(Fair trade certified organic white tea, organic rosebuds)
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Decaf Ginger Lemon
(Fair trade certified organic decaf green tea, org, ginger, lemongrass)
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

The latter three were not bad but I am not a fan or floral teas and lemongrass.

You can buy these on their website Green Pharmacies or Citysuper (Time Square, Shatin), Organic stores and Beauty Salons.

Numi Dry Desert Lime Herbal Teasan Tea

I was not sure what to expect for the Dry Desert Lime, but the name looked promising.
The ingredient was only dried lime which was great because it had nothing else mixed in such as lemongrass.

When I opened the sachet, there was a strong dried lime smell which was wonderfully similar to the smell of Chinese dried lemons.

After steeping it, the taste was amazing, it had a strong citrus taste that was moreish and you could taste the natrual acidic flavour of lime.
I think it would taste great with a pinch of salt just like how Tequila is served with a dash of salt on the rim.

You can buy Dry Desert Lime on their website Green Pharmacies or Food Garden at Lai Chi Kok.

Other NUMI teas I have tried:

Numi savoury teas

Teas are normally sweet or unsweetened complemented with milk or drank alone.

Ever thought of savoury teas? Well you can now get savoury teas!!!

The savoury teas were amazing, they were similar to light Chinese soups without the meats and oils which make them ideal for vegetarians.
Aftering drinking it, there was no thirsty feeling.

I had fun opening the teabags too to see what were inside them and there were pieces of dehydrated vegetables which are actually edible after it has been steeped because I ate them too.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Spinach chive:
Ingredients: Spinach leaves, chives, dried lime, dill, onion, decaf green tea, coriander, turmeric, garlic.
This had a strong cilantro smell when I took it out of the sachet.
The taste was really pleasant but for a stronger tastes I would advise steeping it longer and putting less water.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Broccoli Cilantro
Ingredients: Broccoli, celery leaves, allspice, onion, cilantro, decaf green tea, garlic, black pepper, sage, turmeric.

This had a lovely black peppery tone and it was like a diet version of cream of broccoli which is good for people on diet and still wanting to drink soup.
I loved the woody taste of the tea.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Carrot Curry
Ingredients: Carrot, curry, cilantro, onion, ginger, turmeric, decaf green tea.
There was strong curry taste and smell but I found the cilantro too overpowering.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fennel Spice
Ingredients: Fennel, celery root, orange peel, onion, dill, decaf green tea, honeybush, black pepper.
The fennel spice had lovely spicy tones, great on a cold day.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tomato Mint
Ingredients: Tomato, onion, mint, lemon peel, parsley, cinnamon, black pepper, decaf black tea, allspice.
The tomato mint was surprisingly good because I am not keen on mint but the tomato taste was really strong with a lovely refreshing moreish aftertaste that real tomatoes have.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
BEET CABBAGE:
Ingredients: Beet, cabbage, dried apple, decaf black tea, mustard seed, parsley, orange peel, coriander, clove, honeybush.

This was my favourite because the beetroot and cabbage were soothing with a lovely hint of spice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
After trying the savoury range my favourite were: Broccoli cilantro, Beet cabbage and the Tomato mint.

Japanese and Korean feast from 7-eleven

Thanks to 7-eleven's marketing department for sending me cute bunny ears and redemption vouchers to try their Japanese and Korean food.

Here was what I tried:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Oden skewers:

There were eight skewers to choose from but they only had two choices that day.

Here were the two I tried.

The flat one on the upper right was quite spicy with strands of glass vermicelli in it.
The roll on the lower left was more to my liking.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Teriyaki chicken pizza $16.9:

There is a calibrated oven just for the pizzas.
The pizza looked promising with the cheese nicely melted but the base was too soft.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rice with pork and egg $14.9:

The pork and rice was quite tasty because the sauce was nice, however there was not much egg in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Onsen egg $9.9:

The onsen egg was perfect with a runny yolk.
After it was added to the rice, the pork was enhanced by the delicious silky yolk.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rice with sukiyaki chicken $14.9:

The chicken was ok, but the pork was tastier.

Nestle Greek Apple Cinnamon yoghurt

Nice yoghurt with crisp pieces of apple at the bottom which were not too sweet.
However, it was rather pricey for HKD$13.9 because the yogurt cup was small it was not filled to the top.

The Asian Nestle Greek yoghurt version is different to other countries because if you google it the size and flavours are different.

Walkers Pops

Walkers Pops are new crisps which are air-popped snacks and claim to be 50% less fat than standard potato crisps.

Currently available in Original, Sour Cream & Onion, Melted Cheese & Crispy Bacon, and Prawn Cocktail.

Thanks to my mum, I got my hands on the Original and Prawn cocktail.

They look like perfectly uniform round Chinese prawn crackers but the texture is similar Monster munches with that maize feeling in it.
It was surprising how two different flavours could taste so different, the prawn cocktail was very acidic but had that usual prawn cocktail smell and the original was much nicer with a strong potato taste.

Hojicha latte drumstick by Nestle

I don't normally try Nestle's drumsticks because the flavours are quite boring but I was looking at some icecreams when I discovered they had Hojicha latte flavour.

Hojicha is a roasted tea from Japan with a hint of caramel.

The Hojicha latte icecream tasted quite nice with a light tea taste.
I assumed the whole cone was filled with that icecream but when I got to the cone part it had vanilla icecream in it as well which was disappointing because only the top part was hojicha and the bottom tastes like vanilla icecream with a hint of coconut.

They also have pistachio drumsticks but if the bottom half is not filled with 100% pistachio icecream I would be pretty angry because I love pistachio icecream.

Nissin Cup noodle white

Nissin's new white flavoured cup was produced for the Sochi 2014 winter olympics.
As I can't read Japanese I don't know what flavour this was, but when I peeled the lid, there was a milky smell and you could see pieces of dehydrated potatoes, bacon, egg and other vegetables.
After adding water, it smelt really similar to carbonara.
The taste was really creamy at first but my tongue got accustomed to it and then I could taste hints of bacon and a savoury milk taste.
Compared to other flavours, this one does not taste salty but the noodles and soup have a viscous feel to it when you slurp the noodles.

Heavenly egg free mayonnaise by Hampton Creek Foods

Just Mayo is cholesterol-free, egg free, dairy free, soy free, lactose free, gluten free, vegan, kosher and non-GMO mayonnaise which comes in two flavours Just Mayo and Chipotle Mayo.

I was so lucky to get my hands on a jar of Just Mayo from Hampton Creek Foods!!

When I opened the jar, there was a definate mayonnaise smell.
The mayonnaise looked thick but it was effortlessly spreadable and the knife glides in it so well.
I tried it on its own and it was so similar to Hellmans but it had a stronger lemony kick.

Anyway, I slapped it generously on my bread knowing that it was cholesterol free.
Plain bread and mayonnaise was just delicious!!
Next time I will use it as a dip with chips!!

I am not a vegetarian, but since the Vegetarian version tastes as good as real mayonnaise and good for your health, I would definitely buy Just Mayo!!

Just Mayo is made with yellow peas and will be available in the UK in the next few months, so watch out!

Hampton Creek Foods have also developed this product called Eat the Dough (made with sorghum flour) which a cookie dough that you can bake up or safely eat raw (no risk of salmonella!).
Look out for Just Scramble, a plant-based scrambled "egg" that will be available later this year!

Dehydrated Cantaloupe melon (Low Sugar) by Jfruit

You don't often see dehydrated cantaloupe melon which was I why I had to try it.
Usually the dehydrated fruits you find are mango, pineapple, bananas, apricots and others.

The packaging was really good, it looked like a melon, inside the packet were individual packets.
The taste and texture was interesting, it was chewy but sweeter than the fresh form.
Jfruit is from Thailand, so rest assured there is English labelling and nutritional facts printed on the pack.

I wouldn't mind getting my hands on their dehydrated mangosteen!

Valentine's special boy edition - Dark chocolate by VitaSoy

Although Valentine's day has past, there is White day coming up!!

Anyway,  tried Vitasoy's Valentine's special which was dark chocolate.
There are two designs a boy and a girl.
(The girl which I don't have)
This design is similar to the Tiramisu edition.

The taste was quite nice because the chocolate was stronger than the normal chocolate version.

McDonalds - Hong Kong - Red Peri Scorcher

Found out about this new burger called the RED PERI SCORCHER from the paper.

Only noticed it because of the colourful stars which is quite similar to my openrice logo.

The red peri scorcher burger is NEW in HONG KONG but has already been launched in Singapore and Australia last year.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

RED PERI SCORCHER:

Made with Carolina Reaper chilis, habanero chilis, Naga Jolokia chilis and Peri Peri chilis.

The world's hottest chilis guarenteed to be a scorching sensation.

I really liked it because it was crispy marinated chicken thigh meat with cracker wheat and the sauce was spicy with a strong hint of lemon.

It had a really nice cajun smell just like the coating you find in Southern fried chicken.

The chili was fiery but it does not linger which is why I like African chilis.

Korean and Japanese delights from 7-eleven Hong Kong

Thanks to 7-eleven for sending me these goodies featuring popular Korean pot noodles and Japanese sweet treats.

For Korean goodies we have: Vilac Cup Rice and Noodle, Ottogi Japchae noodles, Hanil Jajeng Myeon
Japanese goodies there are: Ribon Okinawan donuts, Shoeido Swiss rolls and Koubo croissant buns

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Korean Hanil Jajeng Myeon HKD$17.9:
These were quick and convenient to eat, simply empty the noodles in the box and pour the sauce on top and heat in the microwave as advised.
The noodles were soft and chewy in delicious sweet sauce.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Korean Ottogi Japchae – HOT
Springy glass noodles in sweet and spicy sauce with pieces of beef in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Korean Vilac Cup Rice and Noodle – Spicy Seafood $12.9
This is the most interesting cup I have tried, because there was Rice and noodles!!!
It would be great if there was a non spicy version to cater for people who can't eat spicy foods!

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Japanese Koubo croissant buns $12.5
There is a choice of chocolate or strawberry and they were best eaten slightly warmed by heating in a microwave because the paste inside becomes soft.
Personally I liked the chocolate.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Japanese Shoeido Swiss rolls $13.9
These rolls were surprisingly big and filling!
There is caramel and chocolate and both were soft and moist.
It is hard to say which flavour is better because both were good.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Japanese Okinawan RIBON donuts $10.9
There are two flavours: original and black sugar.
Black sugar had more depth in flavour so I preferred the black sugar.
