Taiwan Beef noodles

I haven't tried these noodles, but I found the drawstring bags attractive.

There are two different colours for the two flavours:
beef and spare ribs.

For more product details visit www.taiwanbeefnoodle.com but all the information seems to be based in Hong Kong.

Fish noodles from a pouch

These are noodles are made with fish and they come in a pouch just like cream where the bottom is cut off to make a hole for the nozzle where the noodles come out.
Usually these noodles are for hot pots when the noodles are squeezed out into the boiling broth where it turns into noodles.

Aah-Tsan noodles in chicken and rose oil 玫瑰鹽雞汁

Bought this because of the nice packaging.
Inside there is a packet of noodles, condiments and chicken and rose oil to mix in the noodles.

I was really surprised at the whiteness of the noodles, but I would have preferred a different type of noodles because they took ages to soften and they were really chewy.
The sauce for the noodles was mainly oil so I threw most of the oil away and left the solids so the noodles wouldnt be that oily.

After mixing the sauce, the noodles tasted quite nice but I prefer different noodles because these were chewy and took ages boil.

PRIMA FOOD Laksa La Mian

Bought this huge instant noodle pack which is laksa flavoured, the noodles inside were different to the usual instant noodles, they were thicker and much rounder.

There were two sachets, one laksa paste and the other was coconut powder.

I did not add all the coconut powder to the soup base because I do not like coconut, but when I opened the Laksa paste it was really prawny and fishy which was really nice.
It takes a while to cook too!!

Overall I loved these noodles, but the soup was too spicy for me and there was slightly too much MSG.

McDonalds: Hawaii - Ramen

Source:
http://en.rocketnews24.com/2012/03/19/mcdonalds-selling-ramen-in-the-most-unlikely-of-places-america/

McDonald’s is known for offering regional dishes at its international stores to please local customers.
We recently heard of a certain McDonald’s that sells its own version of Japan’s favorite noodle dish, ramen. We wouldn’t think much of this if it were being served somewhere like Japan or China, countries typically associated with the dish.
However, it turns out this McDonald’s ramen is found in none other than the land of burgers and fries itself, America.
Well, Hawaii, to be precise.
The “ramen” is actually Saimin, a noodle dish very similar to Japanese ramen and a local Hawaiin favorite.
There are a few theories on the origins of Saimin, with some saying it was brought over from Japan by plantation workers in the early 20th century. In reality, Hawaii has seen waves of immigrant workers from so many different Asian countries that it could have come from anywhere—or maybe just combined a little of the best from everywhere.
Saimin has been on the McDonalds menu in Hawaii for years and rumor has it that it was actually the very first regional item to be offered on a McDonald’s menu anywhere.
Your reporter in Hawaii visited a McDonald’s to see how it stacks up with Japanese ramen and, honestly, it stacks up pretty well! The soup is a light, clear broth that’s refreshing and easy to drink. The noodles are slightly thick, similar to Japanese udon noodles, and don’t have that “bad noodle smell” you get with low-grade ramen.
It wouldn’t hurt if the noodles had a little more body, but altogether, McDonald’s Saimin so tasty that I’d go so far as to say it rivals the standard ramen sold at most restaurants in Japan! And it feels like a steal at only $3.29!
It seems not all McDonald’s in Hawaii have Saimin on the menu and not many people, especially tourists, know about it—after all, not everyone puts McDonald’s on their to-do list while visiting a foreign country. If you do happen to find yourself under the golden arches during your next Hawaii vacation though, we recommend skipping the familiar burger and fries for a cup of Saimin.
You can shaka us for it later.

Laksa noodles by Signature 7-11

I nearly got the Red curry with ginger flavoured rice at 7-11, but then I saw the Laksa bowl so I got that instead.

I was hesitant about getting it, because I am more accident-prone with bowls than dishes.
Anyway, I removed the plastic wrapping surrounding the bowl and the lid.
There was a pouch of laksa soup with noodles, fishballs and fish slices beneath the pouch.
I found the pouch really difficult to tear open even with the perforations so I think the people eating at 7-11 most probably need scissors.

There were not much noodles in that bowl and the soup covered it completely.

The proportion was about 1/4 noodles and 3/4 soup.
After heating it for 4 minutes in the microwave, it was ready to eat.
The noodles strands were mostly broken which made it hard to pick up with chopsticks, hence a spoon was needed.

The Laksa soup tasted strong of ginger and chilli, the taste is very similar to the curry sauce from 7-11s fishballs but in watery form.
The MSG was very strong because I felt thirsty all day.
The Laksa bowl cost around $13 but not very filling!

7-11's exclusive Fried Vietnamese rice vermicelli with chicken

However 7-11's exclusive one looked like it was going to be delicious from the poster.
It looked like a thai dish because of the lime and the redness of the noodles.

After I had microwaved it, I was surprised how nice it tasted. It was rich in fish sauce and seafood tastes.
The ingredients I could taste and were listed on the label were: Onion, cabbage, egg, carrot, chicken, red chilli, shrimp oil, fish sauce, shallot, thai basil, chicken powder.
The taste reminded me of the Filipino palabok.

Ingredients
Not only could they be tasted, you could physically see the julienne carrots, onions, chicken, shallots, egg and thai basil!

After it was microwaved

Before it was microwaved

I do not know much on Vietnamese food because the ones I have tried locally are too localized and did not taste nice.
Hence I have not really made an effort to try other places.

Buckwheat soba seafood bolognaise

Was bored with pasta bolognaise, so replaced pasta with the Japanese buckwheat soba 蕎麥麵, and served it with seafood and bolognaise sauce.

Doll's instant microwave pasta

Interesting noodles in a cardboard cup, just like US chinese takeaways.
This one is ready to serve after adding water to the it and microwaving it.

The texture and taste of the pasta is more like undercooked ramen.

Also it is hard to get the pasta evenly done.
