[Review] Tesco Red Velvet Cake

Tried Tescos red velvet cake which was a bit disappointment because the cake lacked character and the chocolate filling was too rich.
The buttercream fared better but didn't help.

[Review] ASDA Victoria Sponge Flavour Milkshake

ASDA has launched four milkshakes which are all flavoured by sweet desserts!!!

The four flavours are:
Victoria Sponge, Banoffee Pie, Salted Caramel Brownie and Sticky Toffee Pudding

I didn't expect them to contain any real cake as I believe they are just inspired and flavoured accordingly, although you can get some thick shakes that have bits of dough/cake in them.

It was really difficult to decide which flavours to get so I eliminated the Banoffee pie first because I don't like bananas.
Then it was down to Salted caramel brownie and sticky toffee pudding.
I selected the sticky toffee because the salted caramel brownie is basically just going to taste like chocolate with salted caramel.
As for the Victoria Sponge, I wasn't keen on this flavour because strawberry comes to mind so I would imagine it tasting like strawberry milkshake but got it as well because I am a fan of the Victoria Sponge cake.

Tried the Victoria Sponge Flavour milkshake first because the sell by date goes off earlier than the Sticky Toffee Milkshake.
The milkshake wasn't as thick as anticipated, nor was it as sweet as expected.
It just tasted like thick cream with a hint of artificial raspberry flavouring.

The Sticky Toffee Pudding Flavour Milkshake was similar in the sense it tasted like single cream with a prominent hint of toffee aroma and taste that was not too sweet.
Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture before drinking it.

[Review] Mr Kipling After Dinner Mint Fancies

Mr Kipling has done it again with another delicious treat called the After Dinner Mint Fancies.

It is a light chocolate sponge topped with a smooth mint creme enrobed in soft chocolate fondant.

Although it was quite sweet but definitely the treat to go with tea.

I loved the soft chocolate fondant coating because it goes really well with the texture of the soft cake.
The sweetest part is actually the mint creme in the middle.
Overall I was glad I tried this.
Hopefully they will come up with a blackforest Fancy with cherry creme or cherry compote.

[Review] Coop Irresistible Hand Finished Caramel Cake

There are not many toffee cakes, caramel cakes around these days so when I spotted this at Co-Op I decided to try it.
It was labelled as [Irresistible Hand Finished Caramel Cake - Caramel sponge filled with a salted caramel frosting, topped with a salted caramel buttercream and decorated with caramel sauce] but I believe the frosting is the hand finished part and cake was made in batches.

The sponge was firm and moist which gave a clean cut and it had a nice toffee aroma to it.

The only thing that let it down was the buttercream frosting which was a bit waxy leaving the mouth slightly oily with a plasticky film.

Condi 1 minute Microwave Cakes

I love Cup Cakes, but when you don't have an oven life can be difficult.
But now you can get microwave cup cakes that are ready in 1 minute.
Tried this brand by Condi where they have two flavours: Apple and Chocolate.

Forgot to take a picture of the chocolate but the chocolate one definitely tastes better because the apple was too sweet and artificial.
Making it was pretty easy, just fill the lid with water to the line, pour it in and mix.

The fork that is included isn't that helpful because it all clumps on to it when you are mixing so I used a stirrer.
When the mixture is smooth and consistent, it is ready to put in the microwave.

After microwaving it, the cake looks like this:

[SAINSBURY'S] pirate fairy cake mix

As a kid, I have always made fairy cakes from cake mixes bought from Sainsbury's.
They come in basic flavours like chocolate or vanilla with different themes from time to time.
The chocolate one I got was the pirate.

Normally for girly themes, it would be the vanilla packs and the boyish themes are the chocolate cupcakes.
Compared to the cake mixes when I was a child, it used to be printed rice paper in the set but now they give you sugar paste decorations which is pretty but I prefer rice paper!

Pretty idiot proof, you just mix egg and water, put the mixtures into the cake case, bake and garnish with icing sugar and the sugar paste decorations.

Anyway, I thought they tasted good because the cake itself wasn't too sweet because I tried it without the icing so adding the icing makes the sweetness just right.
The moistness of the cake was not too bad as well.

For best results use a metal cupcake baking tray if you have one!!

TESCO Double chocolate gateau

I was slightly disappointed with this Double chocolate gateau from Tescos as it was a bit too rich because of the sickly sweet chocolate sauce in the middle.

It is best to remove the plastic when it is still frozen so that it won't be so messy when it is de-thawed.'
