HP Baked Beans review

HP Baked beans are not new but I rarely ever see it at the supermarket which calls for a review on them.

As well as my favourite St Nicholas baked beans, I am still looking for a good supermarket version that is not too sweet with a good savoury kick.

Overall, the beans were not bad, compared to Heinz they are not as sweet with a stronger tomato taste.

[Review] M&S Marks and Spencers Remarksable Baked Beans

Baked beans are just baked beans but they were only 35p which prompted me to try them.

They were quite sweet just like Heinz.

Overall, worth stocking in the cupboard.

Morrisons All Day Breakfast 395g £1.27

I really liked this can of All Day Breakfast by Morrisons because there was black pudding inside it.

The baked beans were tasty too infused with a sausage and black pudding taste with a hint of herbs from the Cumberland sausage.
The interesting thing is that on the product description it doesn't mention Cumberland sausages but they are Cumberland in the Full product description.

Although it was a little bit too salty, the sausages and bacon egg bites were actually tasty and the texture was good compared to other brands I have tried.
In the can, I found, two pieces of black pudding, two sausages and some bacon bites which I can't remember how many were there.

Product description:

Heinz Beanz Curry

Great colouful design but unfortunately I didn't like the taste because it was just sweet, sweet and sweet and the curry flavour was lacking.

Heinz Five Beanz

BEANZ FOR GROWN UPZ!!!
The Heinz Five Beanz are basically the same as the original beans but they contain fives different types of beans in a can for more protein.

It contains a delicious mix of haricot, red kidney, pinto, cannellini and borlotti beans.

I found them tasting the same as the original but the bigger beans were harder and starchier in texture.

Hunger Breaks - The Bacon sizzler

Intrigued by the bacon patties I decided to give it a try.
As well as bacon they have other options such as steak or breakfast.
For full range, please visit:
http://hungerbreaks.co.uk/the-range/

Inside the can was baked beans and bacons patties.
I was quite disappointed with the bacon patties because the texture and taste was a bit weird.

The beans on the other hand were better than quite a lot of other brands because it was more savoury than sweet.

Heinz Baked Beans Ham Sauce (Australian)

Tried the Baked beans in Ham sauce by Heinz in Australia.

They were surprisingly quite nice because they tasted like the original with a smoky smell and a hint of ham in the taste and the tomato flavour was not so prominent.
It would be so cool if there were tiny bits of ham in it.

The only thing I did not like was the can because the insides were a bit black.

I can't wait to get my hands on the modernized Baked Bean flavours:
Garlic and herbs, cheese, chili, curry and barbecue.

Also the BEANZ FOR GROWN UPZ which are fives different types of beans in a can for more protein.
The delicious mix of haricot, red kidney, pinto, cannellini and borlotti beans.

Malaysian AYAM Baked Beans

After trying the BestBuy brand of baked beans, this time I tried the Malaysian version by the AYAM brand.
They also have baked beans with cheese too!
I got the Light version by accident not that I am health conscious.
The light version has less sugar and salt.
Taste: I didnt really like it because the sweetness was really fake, the light version uses modified sugars.
I think if I had bought the normal version it would have tasted better.
As for the beans they were not uniform in size, some were big and some were small.
The texture of the beans was too soft and the bean was so starchy.

Best Buy Baked Beans and al fresco chicken sausages

Felt like having a fry up, but I have to admit that THIS IS NOT TRADITIONAL because I have put rice in it as well.
I would have wanted it to be more traditional but I couldnt find any black pudding or proper rashers in the local Hong Kong supermarkets.
In the end, I decided to make it light cooking just baked beans, sausages and egg with some rice just as a filler.

Baked Beans:
At the supermarket, the brands of baked beans available were Smedleys, Best Buy, Heinz, Ayam and Waitrose.
I didnt get Heinz because its the standard brand in UK. Smedleys looked too localised, there was so much chinese on the packaging, and Waitrose is an upper end brand similar to Marks and Spencers.
So in the end, I got Best Buy, a cheap brand imitating the No frills economic brand in the UK.
Next time I am going to try Ayam which is surprisingly a Malaysian brand!

The taste of baked beans:
I was quite surprised it tasted quite nice, however perhaps it was over flavoured.
The tomato sauce was lovely and tangy which I appreciated yet it was really sweet at the same time. The sweetness was slightly artificial, the type of sweetness you find with saccharin and other artificial sweeteners.
They are navy beans according to the label and they are visually slightly bigger than the Heinz brand.

Sausages:
For the sausages, it was hard to find the traditional British pork sausages, so I got chicken instead because there is less offal and chewy bits in it.
The rest on the shelf were frankfurter varieties and not pork sausages.
I bought the al-fresco brand of chicken sausages and it contained thyme and sage, which you could see beneath the transparent sausage skin.

al fresco chicken sausages
Sausage taste:
I didnt expect them to be spicy, but they were slightly spicy. Overall they were meaty in texture and the herbs in it resembled the ones in the pork sausage.
