New Halos steamed doughnuts

GIFTED: New Halos steamed doughnuts.
After Christmas, it gets a bit boring especially the few days before you anticipate the new year to come.
Anyway, Halos gave foodies something to look forward to by launching their new doughnuts at ASDA on the 27th December!!
I was really lucky to get my mitts on them as Halos sent me a box to try with chocolate and choc orange.
Note, these are steamed hence the texture is a little different basically cakey.
My favourite of the two is definitely the chocolate because who doesn't like chocolate.
Can't wait to see them launch their other flavours they've developed like the raspberry and lemon.
Overall, I would definitely recommend them, £1.50 at ASDA.

M&S Food Ho Ho Hoisin Duck Dragon Roll

I know M&S Food Hoisin Duck Dragon Roll isn't an authentic sushi roll but I felt I had to give it a try because I liked the combo of ingredients.
I felt that if I didn't try this, I would be regretting for the whole year as some items might not return next Christmas.
Although, crispy onions are not used in traditional sushi, it is quite common in UK and I love it!
The Hoisin Duck Dragon roll is made with a cherry hoisin sauce, crispy onions, umami mayo, and pomegranate.
The taste of this was amazing as you can really taste the cherry as well as the hoisin and then you have the lovely crispy onions as well as other mind blowing spices so it was quite unsual in taste yet delicious.

Vietnamese goodies from the newly opened Hung Manh Vietnamese supermarket

I used to think Vietnamese food was pho, pancakes and stuff but if you go to authentic Vietnamese supermarkets there is loads to discover.
I got a good variety of Vifon products like noodles and congee and this really unique instant noodles which comes in a brown paper wrap.
On one of the visits,  I was really lucky to try their freshly home made Vietnamese sesame ball!!
To be honest, I am not a fan of sesame balls because I have been put off by the oily Chinese ones filled with nasty red beans but this was amazing!
The mung bean filling made a huge difference and it was not too sweet.
There was a good filling to pastry ratio.
The outer pastry was thick and satisfying which keeps it from soaking oil during the frying process.
If I knew how to make them, I did definitely fill them with modern ingredients like jam, pandan, chocolate etc but there is already place in UK that does that but I haven't had the chance to try.

Reviews for the food coming soon.

ASDA black forest Alaska pots

Initially I was not going to buy this but then how often do you get a cherry, meringue pairing.
I was not looking forward to the brownie base but got it for the cherry and meringue layers but to my disappointment, there was not much cherry filling.
The cherry filling was distributed on the rim which you can see after I scooped the meringue off so I actually ate this dessert in a deconstructed way.
I had the chocolate brownie with clotted cream which was actually quite nice.

M&S Collection clotted cream

Clotted cream has always been my fave choice for puddings and desserts.
M&S have really upped their game this year with all these offerings.
Their strawberry clotted cream which was available during the summer was amazing and now there is Vanilla as well so I had to try it.
I loved the way it was infused with vanilla but didn't have the extra sweetness and of course that creamy taste and texture of amazing clotted cream.

Asda smooth chicken & bacon pate

I love pate so this one definitely caught my eye because of the bacon as well as this brussels sprout pate which only had the price label on the shelf as there were none left.
I am one of these weird people who loves the top surface of the pate where it is brown and forms a skin and beneath that you have that lovely velvety pate.
The taste of this pate was creamy and somewhat like Shippams potted ham/chicken paste with some smokyness.
I would have liked some alcohol in it to balance the heaviness as it was a bit waxy and lardy which keeps you from spreading too much.
Adding something spicy might help but I think some Madeira wine would definitely up the game like regular pate.

ASDA Festive Pumpkin Spice Latte

Tried this ages ago and I believe I forgot to post it.
Overall it was really nice and you can taste the cinnamon.
Being the latte, it was not that strong on coffee which is great for people who don't drink coffee.
Also managed to try the prototype which I strongly disliked because the coffee was way too strong and bitter that none of the others came through.
I haven't posted the prototype but the labelling is printed paper and stuck around the tin.
