[Review] M&S Marks Spencers Select Farms raspberries

A good raspberry is one that is sweet and mushy.
Once you have tried the raspberries from M&S, any other raspberries will be inferior if they don't taste sweet like these ones.
They are so moreish that you can't stop eating them.

[Fruit review] Plaintain

Plaintains look like bananas but they are much bigger in size and they are ready to eat when its black!
On the contrary, bananas are best eaten before they go black and the inside is white whereas plaintains are light to bright orange inside.
Most people cook plaintains because they are too starchy when eaten raw so that's why you see a lot of it in Caribbean dishes.

[Fruit review] Amla, Indian Gooseberry and Grandmas Amla tea

Amla berries are basically Indian Gooseberries, the anatomy of these berries are so different to gooseberries which are like grapes.
Amla berries are hard to touch and there is a bright green stone inside which has an interesting shape.
As for the taste, it is very astringent but it is said to be good in reducing sugar.

It turns out that my grandmas was already in the game because she made some Amla tea which I drunk before without realizing.
Her version is different to the Indian version by crushing the berries and natrually drying them in the sun.
To drink, you simply add hot water to it.
Strangely, there was no bitterness and it just tasted refreshing.

[Review] M&S Marks and Spencers Ready to eat Plums

I rarely get fruit but the plums looked good just like big cherries.
Overall, each plum was crisp and sweet and the stone came off easily and did not stick to the flesh.

[Review] M&S Marks and Spencers British Raspberries

It is hard to get ripe and sweet raspberries but these raspberries from M&S were so good.
Each and every one was ripe and sweet.

[Fruit Review] Prickly Pears

Spotted these prickly pears at the market and they were affordable at 4 for a pound so decided to give them a try.
I thought the colours was related to the ripeness but the guy at the stall said the colour is just basically the colour of the flesh inside.
Since it was the flesh colour, I got a mix of colours and I was surprised how vibrant the flesh was.

It was similar to a dragonfruit but the pips were hard.
The texture was like watermelon and and it was surprisingly sweet and juicy but different colours taste different.
Personally I liked the green and orange because the taste was sweet and light.
The fuscia one was really sweet.

Overall, it was how I expected it to be but very different in taste to the nopal cactus which was viscous.

[Review] Tesco Supersweet British Strawberries

I got the Tesco Supersweet British Strawberries because they looked nice.
All of the strawberries in the box were evenly ripe and red.
They turned out sweet and delicious as claimed and they were best paired with alcoholic cream.

[Review] M&S Marks and Spencers Strawberries

These are just simply strawberries at the M&S sandwich section for your convenience.
Strangely, they tasted better than the fresh strawberries because they were ripe and sweet.
They were taken to the next level with M&S pink gin cream.

[Review] M & S Marks and Spencers Pink Lady Apple

At Marks and Spencers, there are many fresh fruit available in the salad section.
A while ago I spotted some apple slices with peanut butter which was interesting but frankly I am not a fan of peanut butter so I didn't bother.
This time I spotted the Pink Lady which I have been meaning to try so tried it.
It was a really good as you don't have to buy a bag of apples to try and they are ready to eat.
The apple was crisp and sweet.

Zilla Eggs - Baby Avocados

Previously lots of fruit and vegetables have been wasted as rejects because they do not conform to a certain size of shape.
However it is good that supermarkets have recently recognized them as wonky fruit and vegetable so they are not wasted but sold at a cheaper price.

Zilla Eggs is a fine example. They are avocados that were deemed too small but due to their small size they are now sold as Zilla Eggs because they are the size of your average egg hence great for children and lunch boxes.

I got my hands and one and they are seriously cute and taste just the same as your regular avocado!!

Lime Caviar and its culinary potential in dishes

Ever since I heard about Lime Caviar I have always wanted to try it.
I literally thought they were pearls made with lime juice using molecular gastronomy.

To my excitement, I finally got to see them at Hofex on the second day.

Lime Caviar comes from Finger Limes native to Australia and there are quite a few different colours available.
The best thing is that Finger Limes are all natural and the beauty is that you will find tiny pearls when you slice it open and squeeze it.

These pearls will burst zesty tangy juice so imagine taking dishes to the next level by garnishing oysters or anything that needs a zesty and colourful finish!

You can now get them in tubs which are quick and convenient to serve by spooning them out and sprinkling them on whatever you fancy.

The good news is that you can now get them in Hong Kong through [Eat The Kiwi].

[Eat The Kiwi] offers a good range of New Zealand groceries.

Also at the booth, I spotted some Deer Milk powder which is said to be rich and creamy.
Deer Milk was apparently on the menu at the worlds 50 best in Macau so I wouldn't mind just drinking a pure shot of deer milk to see how it tastes!!

About [Eat The Kiwi]:
Eat The Kiwi was born out of the success of The Produce Company, a business responsible for sourcing and delivering high quality, fresh food to many of New Zealand’s top restaurants since the 80’s.

In the early days they started exporting to Super Yachts and Luxury Hotels in the Pacific but then as they learnt how to provide small consolidated orders to hard to find locations, they decided on taking Eat the Kiwi to the World by hoisting a New Zealand flag.

They landed in Hong Kong in 2015. For the first two years, their carefully chosen, fresh New Zealand ingredients were only available to top restaurants and hotels, but they soon found out that people were eager to access their naturally good food in their own homes too.

In recent years they have opened Eat the Kiwi Offices in Shanghai and Western Samoa.
