Aldi Plant Menu onion marinated tofu

Tofu is basically curdled soymilk and you can get them in various forms and textures from soft to firm.
Personally I prefer firm because I feel it is more substantial while in Asia they like it soft, smooth and delicate like egg flan (creme caramel).
Anyway, I find tofu rather tasteless so I love the flavoured ones which you can just eat by pan frying it.
Thanks to veganuary, Aldi and Lidl have some marinated tofu again but the ones I'd liked to see are tomato or mushroom marinated tofu.
I got the onion marinated tofu which was tasty as expected, it was a bit salty but it was good for accompanying stuff.
Will be reviewing the Basil marinated tofu by lidl later.

Aldi Plant menu no ham and no chicken slices

These ham slice alternatives were unbelievable having the same texture as well as the taste which the manufacturers really nailed.
You got moist water content and that slight elastic resistance as well as taste.
If you eat them on their own, the taste will blow you away but then you get some fine starchy texture breaking down in your mouth.
I felt that this ham alternative was just as good as La Vie which will be launched soon.
Anyway, not everyone eats ham on their own like me so you won't be able to tell a thing in a sandwich all fully dressed with mayonnaise or mustard.
Two months later, I was surprised to see these products again even though it isn't veganuary anymore so I decided to try the no chicken as well since the ham was good.
Again, you get the exact same texture as the ham but the taste was not as salty but more on the umami side.
Overall, I was impressed with the no chicken slices and would recommend.

Aldi Plant menu smoked no salmon slices

Last year I was bowled over by plant based prawns and this year I was amazed with this smoked no salmon slices.
So far, Squeaky Bean and ASDA have no salmon slices and Aldi are now in the game for Veganuary.
It is actually good that you can buy them as slices rather than in sandwiches because you get to appreciate the taste more and you can eat it however you want.
I felt that it is just as pricy as salmon so I am not sure if this is to level up with salmon or the costs to make this product just like lab diamonds and real diamonds.
At first, I thought this salmon alternative was going to be the same as the vegan konjac salmon sashimi but it was a million times better.
It was so good that I hope it will be available all year round and not just veganuary.
As soon as I opened the pack, the smell was promising as you get that smoked salmon smell.
Touching it with my fingers, it was impressive as it truly felt like salmon your fingers will get slightly greasy just like touching salmon without any fishiness.
Trying it on its own, the taste was bang on and it didn't really need any other seasonings or flavours.
If you add dill and lemon juice, it is just like having the cured salmon at IKEA.
It was just as delicious on baguette so if I closed my eyes I would have thought it was salmon although there is a slight aftertaste if you eat too much.
The texture is just like salmon which melts in your mouth and a slight resistance like jelly.
Visually the only giveaway is the uniformity and the square slice because you can't get salmon like that.
Comparing the ingredients of this to ASDA and Squeaky Bean, I found them very similar so it could be then same supplier which is often the case especially when one or more supermarkets offer it.

Peacock Foods School Cake x 4 Decorated Madeira

Peacock Foods School Cake x 4 Decorated Madeira
The first time I came across Peacock Foods was the London Cheesecake which I got from Aldi.
After doing some research, it turns out that they do lots of delicious sweet treats like cream doughnuts, yumyum, danishes etc.
However, I rarely see those products so I wonder who they supply them to.
Recently I got the chocolate cakes by Peacock Foods at Aldi which were really nice so ended up getting these School Cakes.
They were comforting and not too sweet.
Even those it is labelled as Madeira style, I felt that it was so different to the usual ones out there and more cakey and moist in texture yet not oily.
Definitely buying these again as they are cheaper and it relatively easier visiting Aldi than heading out to bakeries that are miles away.

M&S Vegan Meringue Nests : Plant Kitchen

M&S Plant Kitchen Vegan Meringue Nests
I don't normally eat or buy meringue nests but bought some today from M&S because they were vegan.
It was just for curiosity to see how it the texture and taste was.
You definitely get that crunch and airy texture like meringues but it was a little dense and the shape was more uniform than meringues.
In terms of taste, it is sugary so just like a meringue, the only giveaway is the denser texture, yellow colour and you don't that chewiness.
You can imagine texture similar to ice gems icing being airy but not as hard.

Peacock Foods chocolate cake x 4

The first time I came across Peacock Foods was the London Cheesecake which I got from Aldi.
After doing some research, it turns out that they do lots of delicious sweet treats like cream doughnuts, yumyum, danishes etc.
However, I rarely see those products so I wonder who they supply them to.
Recently spotted these chocolate cakes by Peacock Foods at Aldi which didn't look bad in the box so decided to give them ago.
Obviously they were not long life cakes because of the short expiry.
They were very tasty warmed up with custard and not too sweet.
A different story at room temp,  dry and crumbly.
Definitely buying these again because traditional bakeries are scarce and it is really hard getting these old school cakes in my part of town let alone central London.
Sadly most traditional things are found in remote places that haven't quite diversified yet.

Morrisons 8 potato churros with cheese dip

When I found out about Morrisons potato churros I had to get my hands on them because I love anything savoury as well as potatoes.
Sadly, I didn't see them before Christmas because I went too early and they were not stocked yet but managed to find them after Christmas.
As expected the potato churros were delicious as they were crisp on the outside while being soft and fluffy inside with a nice potato flavour.
The cheese sauce made of mature cheddar was interesting as it was white but I wouldn't say the taste was cheesy.
Overall, I liked the potato churros which reminded me of Belgian Lutosa potato products like the pomme dauphines which are fluffy potato balls with the same texture but different shape.
