M&S Marks and Spencers chicken doughnut dippers review

The Marks and Spencers chicken doughnut dippers were part of the party collection launched by M&S last Christmas.

Since they were still around in Feb 2021, I decided to pair them with McCains Smiles.

The doughnut dippers comes with a sachet of BBQ sauce and waffle sprinkles.

After putting them in the oven for the specified time, the doughnut dippers were ready.

The doughnut coating was crisp and light while the chicken inside was moist and soft.

Dipping the doughnut in the bbq sauce was a match made in heaven because the BBQ sauce was thick and smokey with a nice tartness.

I didn't bother with the sprinkles though because I am not a fan of crumbs but overall these are worth trying.

Red gooseberries

The gooseberries that you normally see are green and tart however when they are ripe they become sweet and red.

Battenberg cake and modern batts

Battenberg or Battenburg is a light sponge cake with different sections held together with jam. The cake is covered in marzipan and, when cut in cross section, displays a distinctive two-by-two check pattern alternately coloured pink and yellow. The large chequered patterns on emergency vehicles in the UK are officially referred to as Battenburg markings because of their resemblance to the cake.

Charles Nevin wrote in The Independent: “Battenberg cake is exemplarily British. The first cake was baked in 1884 to celebrate Prince Louis of Battenberg marrying Princess Victoria, Queen Victoria’s granddaughter and

Prince Philip’s grandmother.” Food historian Ivan Day refuted the royal connection, and states the simplification of the four-panelled cake occurred when “large industrial bakers such as Lyons” got in on the battenberg game – “I suppose a four-panel battenburg [a common 19th-century spelling] is much easier to make on a production line”.

Bakers construct Battenberg cakes by baking yellow and pink sponge-cakes separately, and then cutting and combining the pieces in a chequered pattern. The cake is held together by apricot jam and covered with marzipan.

M&S marks spencers roast turkey meal for one review

I love roast turkey and roast dinner ready meals so got the M&S marks spencers roast turkey meal for one which had turkey, potatoes, Yorkshire, pigs in blankets, stuffing, carrots and peas.

It has been available since Christmas and I am glad it is till being offered in February so I am not too late to try it.

Overall, everything was spot on especially the turkey because it was tender and moist however I am not a fan of carrots.

The only that went wrong was that I burnt the Yorkshire and stuffing in the oven otherwise it would have been a perfect dinner.

Walkers oven baked with veg review

These Walkers oven baked with veg are not that new but got them because they were reduced to 10p at boots.

It was beetroot with sweet chili jam.

When you opened the bag, they smelled nice and had a nice crunch but overall too sweet for my liking.

Waitrose Fish Pie Review

You can never go wrong with a fish pie but unfortunately the one from Waitrose was disappointing.
With other fish pies the mash and filling are uniform but with this one the fish was all clumped in the middle.
The texture of the fish was clumped and too firm for my liking.

Multi coloured Swirling star fizzer from Poundland Review

So far I have only reviewed two star fizzers and this is my third.
It was only a pound from Poundland so I got two incase they were crumbly like the superdrug one.
The box was nice and colourful and the smell was my favourite out of the three because it was strawberry and not something floral.
It was easy taking it out of the wrap and most importantly it didn't break like the superdrug one which was the most expensive.
The fizzer floated when I put it in the bath so it did its job and the colours came out nicely.
You end up in a tub of blue water but the only thing to be careful is not to touch the blue fizzing bit because it is hard to wash off.
The most impressive thing was that the fizzer lasted like forever, my bath was full and it still there and kept going.
Overall, I was really pleased and definitely recommend this.
