[Review] Alpro cashew milk - Chilled

Alpro is a non dairy brand that has been around for ages.
They have oat, almond and hazelnut milk but Cashew was one that I have not seen or tried before hence
I had to try it.
For people who want a milk that does not have a nutty taste, I would definitely recommend Alpro Cashew milk because it does taste creamy as claimed and it tastes just like whole meal which brought me memories of drinking milk during break at school.
There is a slight sweetness to it but not that noticeable if you gulp it down.
After trying the cashew milk, I can understand why cashew is used to make cheese because it is just like milk.

As well as cashew milk, the other non dairy nut milks that I like are hazelnut and almond purely because of the nutty aroma they have which goes nicely when you add it to tea, coffee or whatever you are making.

Ingredients in the Alpro cashew milk - Chilled
Water, Cashew (3.1%), Sugar, Calcium (Tri-calcium phosphate), Sea salt, Stabilisers (Locust bean gum, Gellan gum), Emulsifier (Lecithins (Sunflower)), Vitamins (B2, B12, E, D2).

[Review] M&S Marks and Spencers Plant Kitchen Rainbow Vegetable Pie

Spotted the Marks and Spencers Plant Kitchen Rainbow Vegetable Pie while ago and was captivated by the name being a rainbow vegetable pie.

According to the box, it is roasted butternut squash, courgettes, red onions, and red peppers in a tomato and Harissa sauce with a chickpea puree in a paprika pastry case topped with coriander and seed mix.
With all these ingredients, it is definitely hearty and nutritious as well as tasty but sadly I found it too heavy and rich for my liking especially the seed mix which I understand is good for you.
The flavours of this pie was quite Middle Eastern with Harissa sauce and herbs like cumin, turmeric, caraway seeds, nutmeg etc.

Overall, I would recommend sharing this pie or having it with some light salad to balance out the flavours.

[Review] Port Royal Jamaican Salt Fish Patty

A Jamaican patty is a pastry that contains various fillings and spices baked inside a flaky shell, often tinted golden yellow with an egg yolk mixture or turmeric.

It is made like a turnover, but is more savoury and filled with meat.
(quoted from Wiki)
Normally I get fresh patties from Jamaican shops but you can also find ready made Jamaican patties by Port Royal at the supermarket so I decided to try them.
The Jamaican Salt Fish Patty can only be found at the larger supermarkets and the salt fish is seriously worth trying because it tastes like bacalhau which is also salted fish mixed with the vegetable filling.
The saltiness is just right and not too salty or fishy so highly recommended.

[Review] The Original Patty Co. Jerk Chicken Jamaican Patty

A Jamaican patty is a pastry that contains various fillings and spices baked inside a flaky shell, often tinted golden yellow with an egg yolk mixture or turmeric.

It is made like a turnover, but is more savoury and filled with meat.
(quoted from Wiki)
Normally I get fresh patties from Jamaican shops but you can also find ready made Jamaican patties by The Original Patty Co. at ASDA so I decided to try them.
There were so many flavours to choose from but as I have not tried Jerk Chicken in a patty, I got the The Original Patty Co. Jerk Chicken Jamaican Patty.
It was like a jerk version of chicken tikka with a fiery note so definitely recommended if you like spicy flavours.

[Review] Actimel Dairy Free mango passionfruit almond & oat blend

Discovered the Actimel Dairy Free mango passionfruit almond & oat blend at Sainsbury so grabbed a pack to try.
There are 6 bottles in a pack.
The drink was a pretty enjoyable creamy drink without being too sweet but I would rather it plain without mango and passionfruit because I hate mango but luckily it was not offensive.
Later discovered that actimel dairy free only comes in blueberry or mango passionfruit.

If Asda had blueberry I would have definitely tried that.

It would be great if they developed raspberry, cocoa or strawberry because I think these flavours would be more popular in the UK.

A while ago, I tried the original when they had different design sleeves for the bottles.

[Review] Greggs vs Peacock Foods London Cheesecake

A London Cheesecake is a pastry that does not contain cheese and has no resemblance to a cheesecake.
It is simply a puff pastry topped with jam, icing and coconut which was a popular treat in the 1950s and 60s when it sometimes came with pink icing.
As well as the London Cheesecake, people also get confused with the macaroon which is made with coconut and very different to the Macaron.

There are not many places that sell the London Cheesecake so you can only find them at some East London bakeries, Aldi and Greggs in the south east because it is regional.

Unfortunately, I did not make it to Percy Ingles to get their version of the London Cheesecake before the first lockdown earlier in 2020 and sadly they closed forever.
Ironically, there is another lockdown and I went into Greggs because of the Festive Bake and discovered the London Cheesecake.
Either it is very popular or it is new to this branch because I have not seen the London Cheesecake in this area ever but I do remember seeing them at Greggs in East London.

Without hesitation, I got the London Cheesecake and it was the last one.
As soon as I got home, I devoured the London Cheesecake and it was really decadent because of the light layers of puff pasty and sweet icing and coarse coconut shreds.
There was some jam too but it was not evenly spread so the middle part of the London Cheesecake was quite sweet.
Let's hope we don't see any more shop and restaurant closures after the second lockdown.

Review of Greggs Festive Bake:
https://supersupergirl-food.blogspot.com/2019/11/review-greggs-festive-bake.html

After trying Greggs, I got someone to get me the London Cheesecake from Aldi because there isn't an Aldi nearby.
Sadly, the pastry was thick and dense, it looked like it had not risen properly.
Apart from the bad pastry the jam and coconut was delicious and extremely comforting.

[Review] M&S Marks and Spencers Chip Shop Mushy Peas

At the moment, M&S are doing a chip shop range where you can get all your fish and chip comforts there like mushy peas and they even have chip shop scraps.
I was intrigued by the M&S chip shop mushy peas because they also have regular mushy peas which I reviewed a while ago so I wonder how different these two products taste but to be honest, I couldn't taste any difference between the two.
Mushy peas on toasts were a great pairing as I didn't have any chips.
