[Review] Aldi Holly Lane Rhubarb custard crumbles

Recently snackschats reviewed these Rhubarb custard crumbles which seemed worthy of trying so I made a special trip to Aldi for them.
Again I was bowled over by another Aldi product Thanks to @snackschat
This Rhubarb & Custard crumble was amazing, the pastry was light and soft topped with fine crumbles.
The star of the show had to be the filling, there were chunks of rhubarb and a thin layer of yellow custard.
Although it wasn't as tart as I hoped, it was still nice but the rhubarb chunks were a bit woody on the first tart, custard wasn't that visible.
On my second tart, you could visibly see more custard.
Definitely worth trying because it is hard finding anything with real chunks of rhubarb in it.
Just as snackschat said this gives you more satisfaction than your ordinary Kiplings.

Also had it with some custard and it tasted fantastic.

[Review] Aldi Plant Menu Masala Roast Cauliflower Sausages

I have always wanted to try some vegan/plant based sausages which are quite pricey.
Since Aldi offered the Plant Menu Masala Roast Cauliflower Sausages and they were affordable if not cheaper than other places, I decided to give them a try.
The sausage casing is like the real thing, but when it is cooked, the texture was a bit like rice paper.
The sausage filling was quite nice but the only thing that ruined it was that it was a bit too salty and sweet for my liking.

[Review] Aldi Diplomat Pure Green Tea

Only tried this because it was cheap.
For 55p, you get 40 tea bags!
Unfortunately, it was just tasteless yet the tea had the strong colour.
Strangely it was bland but you could still distinguish it was green tea.
Definitely not impressed because after 20 minutes, a layer of tea scum had formed.

[Review] Aldi Rhubarb and Custard Hot Cross Buns

I don't really shop at Aldi unless there is something they offer and others don't.
This year they had this Rhubarb and Custard hot cross buns which no other supermarket had, so being a fan of rhubarb and custard I had to get it.
Finding an Aldi that had it wasn't easy.
I don't drive so I went to the branch in Camden because it was near the tube station but sadly they didn't have it two days in a row.
Anyway, I finally got it at this Aldi branch near Coulsdon which was a bit bothersome as it was quite a few bus stops away.

As well as the Rhubarb, they also had Triple berries hot cross bun which Marks and Spencers also had in 2015 but the Aldi version has difference berries like lingonberries, blueberries and cranberries.
Finally got my hands on the Aldi Rhubarb and Custard Hot Cross Buns!!

To be honest, they were really good because I loved the chunks of candied rhubarb which were sweet and not tart.

The bun was quite yellow in colour possibly owing to the custard.
As for the taste, it was really sweet but sweet in the sense of dessert.
To summarize as a non hot cross bun fan, it really turned me round because of the favourable ingredients.

Update: March 2021
A year after and Aldi has expanded the hot cross bun range with White chocolate raspberry, honeycomb, salted caramel choclate and chili and cheese which M&S were the first to launch last year.

[Review] Aldi Garlic Baguette

Found the Aldi Garlic Baguette in the fridge so decided to try it.
To be honest, I didn't realize it was from Aldi until I looked at the ingredients but I liked the packaging as you it looked nice and simple.

After looking at the ingredients, I wasn't that impressed because it was margarine and not butter but then the good thing is that vegetarians can eat it.
It wasn't pleasant taking it out from the wrapper because you get your fingers greasy.

Overall, the garlic baguette tasted ok if you bake it just right but the garlic spread was little too oily for my liking.

[Review] Aldi Brooklea Cholesterol Blueberry Yogurt Drinks 8 x 100g

Found this in the fridge and out of the blue I decided to look at the ingredients because this drink claims to lower your cholesterol.
Interestingly it has BLACK carrot juice, sterols and blueberry puree.
Have not tried this yet but the taste should be interesting.

[Review] Aldi Holly Lane Authentic German Apple Stollen

The Stollen has never appealed for me because they look like a dense block of cake covered in white icing so I though they were sweet and hard.

To my surprise, the Aldi Holly Lane Authentic German Apple Stollen turned out addictive and goes well with a cup of tea.

The texture was not dense or dry as I thought but soft and crumbly when I ran a knife through it.
It was loaded with juicy raisins and dried apples with a lovely almond Marzipan aftertaste.

I was definitely glad my first Stollen was an Apple one because the apple gives it the extra fruity kick to it.
The icing that looks overwhelming blends in nicely like snow.
