MOM products aroused my interest as they were Indian convenience foods.
The packaging and everything looked good with so many things that you usually order from the restaurant like upma etc.
Here are my finds so far and I shall be trying them soon.
I ended up buying the veggie upma, POHA, Chinese fried rice and the Matar pulao.
Upma is a popular Indian breakfast which is a savory porridge made with semolina, water and veggies. I have always wanted to try this but couldn't because Indian restaurants do not open for breakfast. Finally found an instant version by MOM where you just add water. It was interesting because it reminded me of semolina pudding at school but with a savoury and spicy taste. It was savoury and quite spicy but rather bland. As well as vegetables, there were also cashew nuts. Before you eat, there is an optional sachet of bhujia which you can put in. It is suitable for the Jain diet as there are no onions or garlic.
It comes with a matching green spoon.
POHA is flattened rice, another breakfast dish which I have always wanted to try.
I loved the texture which is similar to congee but much more solid so it is more filling however I felt that it lacked some dimenson in taste as it needed some meat or something like that.
The next meal I tried was the Matar Pulao rice which takes 8 minutes after you add hot water.
Again you get a nice orange matching spoon.
In the tub, you get some pickles.
The taste and texture of the rice was really good, it was fluffy and soft.
Before adding the pickles, you get a lovely spice but when you mix the pickles in, the taste is much better as it makes the rice moreish.
The pickles had a nice salty and sour kick but there was an interesting aroma to it.
Last but not least was the Chinese fried rice.
Overall it was good but I found it quite spicy but once you get used to the spices, the fried rice is really delicious.
After browsing the MOM website, the range for instant meals is incredible and they even have Mexican rice as well as Chinese Fried Rice, Veg Biryani, Red Thai Curry, Japanese Katsu Curry Rice, Poha, Veggie Upma, Khatta Meetha Poha, Matar Pulao, Masala Upma, Dal Chawal.
