As well as ASDA's bright yellow Just Essentials range, they now have an Exceptional range for the finer end and some of the items were captivating so I had to give then a try like the pistachio raspberry doughnuts and the cherry almond kisses.
Asda Exceptional Cherry Almond Kisses.
I love cherry and fresh cream so got this.
Although it is new, it looks and tastes familiar in many ways.
It looked like a whoopie as well as a doriyaki thing.
As for the taste it was comforting with two soft vanilla sponges, cherry flavoured fresh cream and a piece of cherry in the middle.
Its a bit like blackforest minus chocolate and the chocolate sponge replaced by vanilla.
Asda Exceptional pistachio raspberry doughnuts.
A few months ago Asda did these amazing pistachio croissants filled with quality pistachio paste that got me hyped so I was expecting something similar with these doughnuts.
Visually, they look like something from the cafe.
It was nice but it felt like an ordinary fresh cream jam doughnut garnished with pistachios.
The pistachio cream was mild and could have done with a layer of that pistachio creme from the croissant.
Not bad but a bit expensive when it does not deliver your expectations.
Asda Exceptional black forest eclairs filled with chocolate mousse topped with cherry glaze and chocolate shavings.
These eclairs looked stunning, generous chocolate mousse filling but somehow it didn't taste in harmony.
It was an eclair that was sliced horizontally with chocolate in the middle like a sandwich so the mousse was not piped in through a hole.
Anyway, I found the cherry glaze a tad artificial and lacked tartness.
Overall, just stunning but wasn't that decadent.
