Coca-Cola and dyspepsia

Coca-Cola was first invented by John Pemberton, a drink initially sold as a patent medicine for five cents a glass at soda fountains, which were popular in the United States at the time due to the belief that carbonated water was good for the health. Pemberton claimed Coca-Cola cured many diseases, including morphine addiction, dyspepsia, neurasthenia, headache, and impotence. Pemberton ran the first advertisement for the beverage on May 29 of the same year in the Atlanta Journal.

What is dyspepsia? Dyspepsia in plain English is indigestion, meaning hard or difficult digestion, is a medical condition characterized by chronic or recurrent pain in the upper abdomen, upper abdominal fullness and feeling full earlier than expected when eating.

Cajun squirrel crisps!!

Chilli and chocolate, crispy duck with hoisin sauce and Cajun squirrel are among a tastebud-testing new range of crisp flavours launched in Britain on Friday.
The flavours, chosen by the public and developed with the help of top chief Heston Blumethal, also include fish and chips, builder's breakfast and onion bhaji.

They will be sold until May, after which there will be a vote to decide which flavour stays on sale permanently. The creator of the winner will get 50,000 pounds (77,000 dollars, 56,000 euros) plus one percent of future sales.

Of the six finalists, only one was proposed by a man: Cajun squirrel is the brainchild of Martyn Wright, 26, who said he was inspired to enter when he saw squirrel on a restaurant menu.

"This gentle Cajun flavouring will be delicious for the public and although the idea might sound bizarre, it really works," he said, while underlining that no squirrels were harmed in making the crisps.

The six flavours are: Builder's breakfast
Cajun Squirrel
Chilli and Chocolate
Onion Bhaji
Crispy Hoisin duck
Fish and Chips

Eating on a bog

Imagine a restaurant furbished by toilet seatings, and basins as the dinner table, and the food served on mini toilets and basins.

Here's a restaurant that just does that!

Albino purple sweetcorn

Saw this strange looking sweetcorn, not the normal golden yellow, but in a variety of colours, light yellow and purple, so I got some to try. Boiled it for 10 minutes.

Taking the first bite, wow this stuff is chewy, and hard, it texture is very similar to that of barley, wheat kernels. In context to asian food, its texture is like glutinous rice.

After researching it on the net, found out that it is called Glutinous rice sweet corn.

Taste wise, not sweet at all, just slightly salty, and a little starchy, especially after it cools down and the corn starts to deflate and shrivel up.
