[Review] Eggfree Cake Box

Cake Box definitely stands out from the crowd because of its bright decor.
When I first went, my first impressions were not that good because the fruit cakes reminded me of the bad quality ones in Hong Kong and all the cakes were heavily decorated and too colourful to the extent they looked artificial so I did not buy any.









Upon learning that the cakes were eggless with fresh cream made me go there again.
The funny thing was that I was distracted by the cakes and decor to notice they were eggless on the first visit.
Cake Box was founded by Sukh Chamdal and Pardip Dass in 2008 with its first shop in East London and now it is a successful franchise all over London!


When I went again, I finally noticed the word eggless in small print beside the name so this cake shop is actually called Eggfree Cake Box and not Cake Box!

It was hard deciding which cake slice to get but they either have a Victoria Sponge cake base or a chocolate cake base so I decided to try both.
For Three pounds, it is quite a big slice!!









Ended up getting the Black forest cake which has a chocolate sponge base and the Coconut cake which had a Victoria sponge base.
All the cake slices are conveniently held in a sleeve which makes them easy to handle and they come in a lovely box to take home.

To be honest, they were fantastic because the cake are fluffy and moist just like the ones that contain egg.
I was expecting the Black Forest to be my favourite but it was a tad too sweet however the Coconut Cake with the Victoria sponge base was the best because it was not too sweet and had a lighter taste infused with coconut.
As for the cream, it was not bad but it was slightly stiff and crumbly and miles better than the weird waxy creams in Hong Kong.

My new favourite is now the Red velvet which is just red velvet cake and cream.
Simple and lush.


The caramelicous was disappointing as it is described as a caramel base so I was expecting the cake to be caramel but it was just vanilla.

Prices have now gone up from 3 to 4 pounds per cake.

[Review] Batchelors LOW FAT Super Noodles Chicken & Herb

I love Batchelor's Super Noodles.
They come in quite a few flavours like chicken, curry, bacon etc and they have launched a low fat range which comes in a smaller packet.

As a Batchelor's super noodles fan, I realized that I have not tried the low fat range so I decided to try it.

The packaging is certainly nicer as it has a metallic blue at the top.

I wasn't sure what to expect but it was very different to the regular super noodles.
The flavouring was ok but the texture of the noodles were terrible.

[Review] Batchelor's Super Noodles - Chow Mein Flavour

I love Batchelor's Super Noodles.
They come in quite a few flavours like chicken, curry, bacon etc and they have launched a low fat range which comes in a smaller packet.
My favourite flavours are basically bacon and beef.

As a Batchelor's super noodles fan, I realized that I have not tried the Chow mein flavour so I decided to try it.

I wasn't sure what to expect but chow mein from the Chinese Takeaway tastes like noodles tossed in soy sauce.

Anyway, Batchelor's chow mein tasted so different to what I had expected.
The seasoning was so strong and dark and you could taste five spice and aniseed, the stuff you get in Chinese roast duck.

Overall, I am glad I tried and I think this flavour is best paired which Chinese roast!




[Review] Coughlans new Curry Chicken bake and Vegan series

A while ago I tried the Vegan Steak Bake at Coughlans in December.

Now they have just launched the new VEGAN CURRY CHICKEN BAKE before anyone else has!
Mark my words!!
To be honest, the vegan range has something for everyone like cheese and onion, sausage rolls, steak bakes and now the chicken bake!

Each bake at Coughlans is slightly different in appearance so you can visually tell them apart.


Vegan Chicken Curry Bake:

Taking a bite, the pastry is light and flaky just like any other normal pastry.
It was piping hot flowing out with a fragrant curry aroma.
As for the filling, it was quite spicy with a comforting curry taste so I would say the curry bake is a success and definitely recommended.

Here is the rest of the vegan range that I tried.

Vegan Cheese and onion:
This was filled with tasty gooey cheese complemented by the delicious onions.
Basically it tastes just as good as your usual cheese and onion pastry so it is very comforting and unsuspectingly vegan!!!


Sausage rolls:
If you are a sausage fan, you are spoilt for choice, not one but three choices: vegan sausage, vegan sausage and wild mushrooms and the vegan sausage and leek.
It is difficult to say which one is better but probably the mushroom as it has a stronger taste whereas the leek is like your usual sausage roll with leek which is a bit like spring onions but slightly different.

Last but not least is the vegan steak bake which I tried a while ago.

The price of this vegan steak bake is £2.95 which is slightly more than Greggs at £1.55 according to online media photos.

Anyway, when you bite into the vegan steak bake, the pastry is just as good as any pastry in the sense that it is crisp and flaky.
It took me a while to get to the centre of the bake but I was greeted with a lovely gravy loaded with mushrooms and vegan steak.
The vegan steak pieces was tasty and the texture was like firm bouncy tofu that is just the right bite without being too rubbery so overall I really enjoyed this vegan steak bake.


They also have other captivating treats like Butterscotch yum yum and the iced apple lattice.





As well as sweet treats, they have vegan cakes shown on the leaflet!
